Often
metal frameworks are indicated, but it is recommended to avoid unsightly
metal clasps on the buccal aspects of the teeth, especially in the anterior
regions. Adhering to the same principle described for the Internal Clasp,
a strong, yet esthetically pleasing partial denture can be designed.
The framework provides a sturdy metal retention loop in the edentulous
area and leaves the interproximals free of metal. This design allows
using VERSACRYL interproximal retentive cushions, and very short buccal
bracing, as the denture tooth is sandwiched securely around the metal
loop. The buccal bracing should even be avoided in the anterior regions
to accentuate esthetics all the way.
In
certain cases where the metal framework does not present enough mechanical
retention, it is possible to utilize a metal-bonding agent to chemically
attach the acrylic to the metal.
