Moveable Lingual VERSACRYL Flanges on a Lower Denture
The denture
is constructed with conventional pink denture acrylic and instead of avoiding
the undercuts, using VERSACRYL, the lingual flanges can be extended all the
way down into the submandibular fossa.
To insert
the denture, the patient soaks the flanges in hot water for 20 seconds
and gently opens them away from the undercuts, then quickly places the
denture in the mouth and with both index fingers, pushes the flanges back
into the submandibular fossa. The lower denture is now mechanically locked
in place. To remove, the patient rinses with warm water around the flanges
to soften them, then gently lifts the denture out of position.
Note:
Following the same principle, any significant tissue undercut can be engineered
to be beneficial. Typically, large upper tuberosities or cuspid areas
may have such undercuts. Changing the VERSACRYL rigidity (liquid proportion),
the distance of leverage and the thickness of the extension may be necessary
for each individual case.
Thermo-
adjustable lower VERSACRYL flange locks into undercut.
