An Adjustable VERSACRYL Postdam on an Upper Denture
The denture
is constructed with conventional pink denture acrylic, except in the posterior
area, where a crescent shaped strip of VERSACRYL is incorporated. Such a postdam
should measure at least 10mm wide in the middle and it needs a very hard
rigidity of VERSACRYL.
Adjustments to the VERSACRYL postdam should not be delegated to the patient.
To adjust an improper postdam, the practitioner soaks just that area in
near boiling water for 20 seconds and then uses thumb pressure to massage
the postdam strip upwards, purposely too high.
Without delay the practitioner places the denture in the mouth and with
significant finger pressure in the middle of the pink palate, forces the
full denture upwards into place, thereby auto-shaping the VERSACRYL postdam.
The upper denture now has the postdam fitting tight against the palatal
bone.
