Versacryl Reline Kit

Introduction

This unique product has been developed to create thermo-adjustable relines. Imagine having the luxury to simply heat a denture and re-adjust the fit in seconds? And if it’s not satisfactory, the procedure can be repeated anytime to ensure the complete comfort of the denture patient.

VERSACRYL RELINE is not a regular “soft reline” material! It is a heat-sensitive liner that softens in warm water between 50 and 95 degrees Celsius (120 F – 205 F).
At body temperature VERSACRYL has a cushiony effect and will yield to pressure and actually create better suction. When heated the reline becomes very soft and adaptable to soft tissues and teeth, over and over again (at room temperature the material will feel relatively hard to the touch).

VERSACRYL is a cross-linked acrylic denture material, guaranteed to create a perfect chemical bond with all other acrylics. It is available in Heat Cure and in Self Cure.

It is noteworthy that no special equipment is required to use VERSACRYL, but it is recommended to follow the instructions closely, until a “feel” for the material has been developed.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Reline Kit contents:
2 – 60 ml Pre-Mixed Monomer Liquid Heat Cure or Self Cure
2 – 50 gm Polymer Powder, Pink Veined
2 Measuring Vials
2 Mixing Cups
1 Eyedropper
Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS

To obtain the proper Powder/Liquid ratio: 1,5 parts powder to 1 part liquid by weight. Determine whether the reline may be considered a small, medium or large one.
- Using the enclosed pre-measured vials:
Small vial to measure liquid, larger vial to measure powder
- Using standard measuring cups, dispense as follows:

Small reline 5ml liquid = 3 grams to 7ml powder = 5 grams
Medium reline 7ml liquid = 4.5 grams to 10ml powder = 7 grams
Large reline 10ml liquid = 7 grams to 17ml powder = 11 grams

For multiple applications: to precisely measure larger amounts of VERSACRYL Reline material, use an electronic weight scale and follow the above ratio guide.

Heat cure method

To reline a new denture:
1. flask the denture as usual
2. pack regular pink denture base with a thick spacer
3. add a polyvinyl sheet and trial press
4. mix VERSACRYL following the directions above
5. open flask and remove the spacer
6. pack VERSACRYL against monomer-primed acrylic
7. close flask, press and process following denture base instructions

To cure a reline to an existing denture:
1. trim at least 2-3 mm off the denture
2. take impression with silicon or rubber
3. flask denture as usual
4. open flask and remove impression material
5. mix VERSACRYL following enclosed directions
6. roughen bottom of the denture and prime well with monomer
7. pack VERSACRYL, close flask, press and process following denture base instructions

Self cure method

To process reline in a jig:
1. trim at least 2-3 mm off the denture
2. take impression with silicon or rubber
3. jig denture as usual
4. open jig and remove impression material
5. clean and roughen the denture and prime well with monomer
6. mix VERSACRYL following enclosed directions
7. pack VERSACRYL and close jig
8. cure in pressure vessel and finish as usual.

To add a reline at chairside:
1. trim at least 2-3 mm off the denture
2. roughen and prime well with monomer, preferably twice
3. mix VERSACRYL following enclosed directions
4. quickly apply a thin layer while still very liquid
5. build up evenly, seal the edges well and wait for VERSACRYL to gel
6. place in mouth, check bite and muscle mould
7. carefully remove denture after 45 sec.
8. cure in pressure vessel and finish as usual.

The Self cure reline material is polymerized in a pressure vessel in lukewarm water for 20 min. at 20 to 25 psi. Heat cure is cured in conjunction with regular pink denture base and can be processed either in water or dry method, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
For older dentures, or to make certain the chemical bond will not be compromised by contaminants, first add a thin layer of freshly mixed regular acrylic, prime well with the appropriate monomer, then apply VERSACRYL as instructed.

To achieve the best results, same as for acrylics in general, heat cure is always recommended over self cure, because it produces a more complete and stable polymerization, giving the appliance a more impervious surface and therefore a longer lifespan.

Surface Finish

Trimming and polishing VERSACRYL RELINE is not different from regular denture base acrylic, except more caution and cooling are recommended.

After low shine polishing, two ways to finish the reline surface:
1. similar to soft reline materials, VERSACRYL can be high-shined after freezing for 15 to 20 minutes, with a leather buff. This flattens the surface molecules and produces a more impervious surface.
2. apply a thin coat of surface sealer to the dry reline. Air dry for 5 min.
Apply a final coat and let dry thoroughly before handling. The sealer provides a two-way barrier.

Recommendations:
When VERSACRYL parts engage into undercuts, it is necessary to thermo-insert (pre-heating in warm water) as well as thermo-release the denture (rinsing with warm water).
On upper dentures, if the palatal area fits satisfactorily, only the ridges should be relined.

Patient management is the primary practitioner’s responsibility: it is up to the practitioner to instruct the patient and to delegate only those functions, deemed necessary for the well-being of the patient. (also see Patient Instructions)
