Instructions to construct a VERSACRYL Tissue Clasp

A VERSACRYL
Tissue clasp incorporated into a lower denture
Each VERSACRYL
Laboratory kit contains:
- VERSACRYL
Softener monomer
- VERSACRYL
Hardener monomer
- VERSACRYL
powder polymer
- In a small
jar, first mix Softener and Hardener and stir for 10 seconds. The recommended
proportions for the tissue clasp is: 40% Softener to 60% Hardener. In
the instructions, the ratios are expressed in 'drops' of each liquid.
- Slowly
add the VERSACRYL powder while stirring, until the consistency is light
creamy (approx. 1.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid). Wait until the mixture
slightly gels and can be securely applied in the proper area.
- Two methods
to construct a VERSACRYL Tissue clasp:
- Double-pack
heat-cure into a new denture: flask, remove wax and pack denture
with pink acrylic using a polyvinyl sheet. Press and re-open flask.
Cut away the pressed tissue clasp and at least another 3 mm further
into the denture periphery.
Pack the void with the VERSACRYL mixture. Close flask, final press and process
as usual.
- Self-cure
onto a new or existing denture: cut back and prepare the surfaces
by roughening and priming with Hardener using a brush. Quickly apply
the VERSACRYL mixture to all contact areas, then shape the tissue clasp
as the material slowly gels. Process as usual in a pressure cooker.
Note: when designing a tissue clasp, do not leave sharp
edges, to prevent scraping the soft tissues while inserting or removing
the partial denture.
Always carefully
check the final amount of retention and adjust the length of the tissue
clasp on a duplicate model using warm water to ensure proper function
of the appliance.
